Putting Student Safety First

Successful schools are safe havens for learning. Every few months, however, the media reports that a teacher, substitute, or coach has made inappropriate sexual advances toward one of our students, right here at home. We need to work together and take serious steps now to prevent these menacing acts.
That’s why I recently partnered with Congressman Adam Putnam (R-FL) to introduce the Student Protection Act of 2009, which provides state, local, and private school officials with the tools they need to keep sex offenders from ever setting foot in a classroom again.
On this page, you will learn more about this important legislation and other efforts to fight sexual abuse in schools.
